What is DermaPen Treatment?
Here at the London Lip Clinic, we are proud to be able to offer DermaPen Treatment to our clients. DermaPen is the brand name for a tool which is used to provide a micro-needling procedure. Micro-needling is a non-surgical procedure which promotes healing to the skin. This is known to improve the appearance of the area being treated by revitalising it. The procedure improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, scars and stretch marks. It acts in rejuvenating your skin by stimulating natural collagen and elastin production.
Collagen and elastin production is stimulated as a direct result of the treatment. These proteins are the building blocks of smooth and radiant skin. Scars are broken down during the process of DermaPen Treatment. New skin growth occurs as a result of the microscopic punctures which create tiny wounds. Healing improves the texture and tone of the skin in the area that was treated.
In contrast to the traditional roller used in microneedling, the DermaPen is a handheld device. With DermaPen Treatment, you will be able to overcome all the same issues treated with a traditional roller. The depth of the needles utilised in the DermaPen are adjustable. This ensures that the needles don’t go too deep during treatment. For safety reasons, these needles are disposable.
What Conditions Can Be Treated With DermaPen?
DermaPen Treatment is a great way to improve the appearance of the skin when general rejuvenation is desired. The treatment targets imperfections and improves the texture and tone of the skin. Pores are minimised, superficial wrinkles are removed, and the appearance of stretch marks, hyperpigmentation and scarring is greatly reduced.
How does DermaPen Work?
The DermaPen works by puncturing the skin with spring-loaded micro-needles. The fine micro-needles can move up and down as they puncture tiny holes in the skin. This causes collagen and elastin production to be stimulated. The small punctures allow the absorption of nutrients into the skin’s deeper layers. It must be stressed that during this treatment no damage occurs to the dermal layers and the process is completed fairly quickly.
Sometimes Dermapen can be combined with skin chemical peels for an intense treatment.
Pre-Appointment Care for DermaPen
Prior to your DermaPen appointment, you are going to have to avoid Retin-A products and applications for 24 hours. As well as this, you’ll have to abstain from using auto-immune therapies and products for 24 hours before your treatment. In this timeframe, you will need to make sure you’re not exposed to the sun as DermaPen Treatment can’t be administered to sunburned skin.
Let us know if you are taking any medications that can cause you to bleed easily. If you need to discontinue any regular medication for a few days prior to your appointment, consult with your doctor before doing this. This will ensure you make any changes you need to make safely without causing any risks to your general health.
Here are a few more pointers to help you to prepare for your DermaPen Treatment:
- On the day of your appointment, arrive with a clean face and no makeup.
- If you have decided to have Botox injections, ensure you wait 2 weeks before planning your DermaPen Treatment.
- Consult your practitioner if a breakout occurs before you are due to come for your appointment.
- It’s important to wait 6 months before you book an appointment after using oral isotretioin.
The Process of DermaPen Treatment
The process involved in DermaPen Treatment is fairly straightforward. The skin’s outermost layer is punctured by the tiny micro-needles. Puncturing is controlled and minimally invasive, creating small injuries which in turn stimulates collagen and elastin production in the skin. Increased production of these essential proteins results in smooth, healthy skin about 7 days after treatment.
During your treatment with DermaPen, you may experience some discomfort. This is easily avoided if you have a numbing cream applied to the area being treated. Depending on how deep the needles go, there may be some pinpoint bleeding throughout the treatment, however, this won’t be ongoing.
There may be some reddening of the skin in the area that was treated. This effect can last anything up to a day or so post-treatment. If any of the effects listed here continue for longer than specified here, it’s advisable to contact us at the London Lip Clinic with your concerns.
Post-Appointment Care for DermaPen
After your DermaPen Treatment, you’ll need to use tepid water to rinse your face when you need to in the 24 hours which follow. After the initial 24 hours have elapsed, you can use a gentle cleanser to clean your face. Use the same gentle cleanser for the next 72 hours. Remember to dry your skin gently when you wash it.
We advise you to ensure that you have clean hands when you touch the area that has been treated. After treatment, you need to make sure that you apply the DermaPen lubricant to the area for the next 24 hours. Avoid any anti-inflammatory medications for a fortnight after your appointment. It’s also important to avoid using makeup or sun block for 24 hours after DermaPen Treatment. Make sure that your makeup brushes are properly cleaned before applying your makeup to the area treated.
When the initial 24 hours have elapsed, it’s advisable to use a sun block with an SPF of 30 or higher for 14 days after treatment. Aim to select one which is free of chemicals. You’ll need to avoid using Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Retinol, Beta Hydroxy Acid, Vitamin C or any product which is used to provide ‘active’ skincare. Avoid using these products for the first 3 days after your DermaPen Treatment.
For the first 48 hours post-treatment, you’re going to have to avoid direct sunlight. This also includes any tanning beds you may use regularly. Avoid going swimming for at least 24 hours after the procedure. It’s important to avoid exercise routines or any strenuous activity for 24 hours after the treatment is complete. Avoid activities that are likely to make you sweat (like the gym) for 72 hours after you’ve been treated.
The Benefits of DermaPen
DermaPen Treatment is ideal for fighting off typical issues among individuals with a variety of skin problems. This simple and effective procedure is minimally invasive, rejuvenating the area being treated. It affords the benefits of drastically improving the appearance, texture and tone of the skin. After treatment, the skin is revitalised as it is returned to its former glory. Micro-needling induces collagen production which minimises the appearance of scars, fine lines and wrinkles, alopecia, dry and saggy skin, stretch marks, and issues with skin hyperpigmentation.
As well as all the benefits outlined above, DermaPen Treatment offers the following benefits:
1. Minimal side-effects
The side-effects associated with this treatment are minimal. There may be some initial redness or bruising, but these effects are short-lived and soon pass. This procedure is completely safe and 100% effective in restoring the skin. DermaPen Treatment stimulates the skin’s natural collagen and elastin production which is essential for rejuvenating the skin.
2. Little or no downtime
Traditional micro-needling treatments require patients to stay inside for days after having the procedure done. With DermaPen, patients are able to resume their regular routines 48 hours after the appointment. Little or no downtime means that DermaPen offers considerable convenience over other micro-needling treatments.
3. Typical skin problems
DermaPen Treatment is ideal for tackling the most common skin problems faced by many individuals. As well as restoring the skin to its former beauty, DermaPen is able to help you to solve other skincare issues. The new skin which results from treatment will more easily absorb vitamins and minerals in other skincare products much more quickly than before. This is the reason that this treatment is ideal as an adjunct therapy to your typical skincare routine.
DERMAPEN Common Questions and Answers
1. What is DermaPen Treatment?
DermaPen Treatment involves using a derma stamp pen with very fine needles to penetrate your skin in the area being treated. This treatment is able to break down scar tissue, stimulating collagen and elastin production. New skin tissue is formed by the new collagen that is produced after the procedure.
2. How Does DermaPen Work?
The DermaPen penetrates the skin’s outermost layer to deliver your treatment. It creates thousands of microscopic wounds to the area being treated. The body will respond to this by producing a large amount of collagen and elastin. Results are seen as the area that has undergone treatment is rejuvenated.
3. What Issues Can Be Targeted with DermaPen?
The following skin issues can be targeted with DermaPen Treatment.
- Scars
- Deep wrinkles
- Fine lines
- Sagging skin
- Large pores
- Rough skin texture
- Stretch marks
4. What will I experience after the treatment is over?
There will be some redness and mild swelling for 2 to 4 days after your DermaPen Treatment. You may experience very slight bruising or tiny blood spots on the skin. Symptoms like this will disappear between 24 to 48 hours after treatment.
5. When will I see the results?
About 7 days after treatment with DermaPen, your skin will become smooth and radiant.
6. What can I expect to happen during treatment?
Typically, DermaPen Treatment involves cleaning and numbing of the skin before the treatment starts. The DermaPen is then used to puncture microscopic wounds in the skin. After the treatment is over, serum containing Vitamin-C or Hyaluronic acid is applied to your skin. This is necessary to help the skin to renew itself.
7. How much down time can I expect with this treatment?
The down time involved in DermaPen Treatment is minimal. Although skin redness and inflammation are extremely common, these symptoms soon disappear in 2 to 4 days. Side-effects may be more severe depending on the intensity of the treatment.
8. Which areas can be treated with DermaPen?
As DermaPen treatment works on all skin types, everyone can benefit from skin-rejuvenating results. Typically, the areas you can have treated include the face and neck, the mouth, the skin around the eyes, the body and the scalp.
9. What happens to the skin after DermaPen treatment?
Micro-needling treatments like DermaPen improve the absorption and efficiency of skin care products. Circulation and collagen production are boosted by more than 1,000%.
10. I have dark skin. Is this treatment right for me?
DermaPen works in the same way for all skin types and colours. Treatment won’t produce any inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
11. Is the treatment going to be painful?
The amount of pain involved in DermaPen Treatment is going to depend on how deep the needles need to penetrate. When a numbing cream is used beforehand, any pain experienced will be minimal.
12. How many treatments will I need?
The severity of the skin condition you have is going to determine how many treatments you’ll need to achieve the desired results. In the majority of cases, noticeable improvements are seen in between 1 to 4 sessions. Book your free consultation at the London Lip Clinic today to find out how many treatments you’ll need.
13. How long do I need to wait between DermaPen Treatments?
It’s recommended to wait 4 to 6 weeks between treatments.
14. What are the side-effects?
Other than the minimal after-effects already mentioned here, there are no side-effects reported from thousands of DermaPen Treatments performed around the world.
15. What should I avoid using after treatment?
You’ll need to avoid the sun, chemical peels, makeup and anything which is non-comedogenic for several days after your treatment. The aim of all this is to ensure that your micro wounds heal properly.
16. Is this treatment safe?
Micro-needling is completely safe and suitable for use on all skin types. The epidermis suffers no damage during the treatment. It’s extremely unlikely that there will be a change in skin tones or hyper-pigmentation. The DermaPen Treatment is used on sensitive areas, such as the eyes, face and hands. These areas can’t be addressed simply with other methods available today.
17. Is there any risk of infection with this treatment?
As the microscopic wounds created by the procedure heal within an hour, there is very little risk of getting an infection in the area that was treated.
A word of caution
DermaPen Treatment is not always an appropriate treatment in all cases. For example, individuals who have used Roaccutane in the last 90 days should not have the treatment. Pregnant women should also avoid having treatment. Those who have undergone radiation therapy in the last year shouldn’t have the procedure done.
If you’re not sure of this treatment is right for you and you still have questions, we will be happy to advise you here at the London Lip Clinic. Consider booking a free consultation today to find out if you’re suited to DermaPen Treatment. We’ll be happy to hear from you.
